How can the youth of today preserve the environment for future generation?
Answer Before youths can preserve the environment for future generations, they need to be exposed to the issues and possible solutions. This can be accomplished by encouraging our schools to incorporate environmental conservation curriculum and through student development of clubs and after school organizations. It is also the responsibility of environmental protection agencies and non-profit special interests to afford youths the opportunity to be exposed to these issues by participating in job fairs, career days and seeking out interns. In Washington State we have developed the Department of Ecology Youth Corps which are high school age youths involved in education and litter clean-up during the summer months. There are also many volunteer opportunities with state agencies and non-profits – from wildlife species surveys to streambank restoration. I would suggest you contact local agency offices to find out more about these opportunities.
