How can the violence stop?
Violence has been the biggest problem in Afghanistan for the last three decades. Each and every day hundreds of Afghans are killed. The government has to take solid steps to control the violence starting with eradicating the corruption. The government must do work for the community to make them want to support them. The international community and the government also have to negotiate with the opposition to solve the problems. The Taliban are also Afghans. They have to be in the political set-up in this country because they were rulers for almost eight years. When they arrange peace conventions and jirgas [a community council of elders], the Taliban should be invited to take part and to reach a peace solution. Without involving them, the peace process cannot be successful. The example of Grand Pak-Afghan Jirga is in front of us – there are two sides of the Afghan conflict, government and Taliban, but the real opposition was not in that jirga. And we can see the result, which has been n
