How can the ScanGauge II do all of these things with only a single connection?
All OBD2 compliant vehicles (see above) use one of several standard operating protocols and require a data link connector inside the passenger compartment. This system is required to provide diagnostic information and allow resetting of the CHECK ENGINE light. ScanGauge II reads the complex data stream, calculates and displays the values as digital gauges and performs diagnostic functions like a conventional scan tool. ScanGauge also provides additional vehicle specific add-on gauges we call Xgauges. You know what your computer knows.
