How can the MICECP assign someone to a foreign country when the person cannot speak that language?
Each MICECP must document a reasonable fluency in at least one foreign language or have passed the Defense Language Aptitude Battery Test (DLAB) with a score of 96 or better. The DLAB measures the ability of an individual to be able to acquire fluency in a foreign language. However, many of our positions overseas do not specifically require fluency in the language of that nation since the duties may not require regular contact with the foreign nationals of that nation. In those cases where a language requirement exists, the MICECP will attempt to fill the position with an individual who has documented fluency in that language. If this is not possible, candidates for these positions will be provided specialized and personalized language training to prepare them for this assignment.
