How can the IASLC maintain its balance in geography, and specialty?

In a world in which globalization and complexity should always more important the role of new emerging geographic areas need to be reasonably consider but, at the same time, the historical roots of IASLC should be acknowledged. For geographic representation either the increase of the number of Board of Directors or a comparable reduction of the representatives from Europe, Americas and Japan should be explored. These strategies will allow a sustainable and progressive involvement of representatives from emerging geographic areas of the world. Considering that these strategies are not “on-off” strategies I truly believe the IASLC committees are the right place where committed members, from any geographic area and without any restriction, should show up, be actively involved and their leadership developed. Women are still definitively underrepresented in the IASLC especially in consideration of the role they progressively play in research and patient care. This issue urges to be solved.
