How can the horse pull the carriage so easily?
Columbia Carriage Works primarily uses draft horses to pull our carriages. One of our largest horses, “Sir Lancelot,” weights nearly 2500 pounds and stands 18.2 hands (74 inches) at the shoulder. Most horses can pull six times their own weight, so even with a full carriage of 12 people “Sir Lancelot” doesn’t have to work very hard. • Where are your horses kept? When the horses are not working, they stay at Long Creek Equestrian Centre in Blythewood. There the horses enjoy large stalls, green pastures and plenty of other horses. You can see their facility by clicking on the Equestrian Center link. On the weekend, the horses can be seen resting at the railroad tunnel (Lady & Lincoln Streets) where we are developing a carriage facility.
