The Learning Disability Awards Framework consists of a large number of Units, each of which provides an agreed set of learning outcomes and assessment guidance. Primarily this framework has been developed to provide benchmarks or templates against which any learning or training can be mapped. In other words, the units have never been designed to offer a learning or training programme in themselves, but to provide a valuable, ready made starting point for developing such programmes or checking existing programmes against. Some of the ways in which the framework has been used so far include: * Accreditation of single or small groups of units through NOCN or City and Guilds. There is no requirement for the learner to do the whole qualification if this is not appropriate or possible. Services have to make it compulsory for all new staff to gain the induction/foundation units through LDAF as a minimum.
