How can the effects of wind erosion be minimised?
Plant cover can reduce the effects of wind erosion by binding soil and keeping them moist. The additional cover also acts as a barrier to reduce the wind speed at ground level which traps soil particles. Therefore by planting ground cover and sedges it is possible to reduce the impacts of soil erosion in an area. Soils with a rough surface are also less likely to be affected by wind erosion because wind speed at ground level is slower and transported soil is trapped in the troughs. Moving grazing animals such as cattle from an area before they remove vegetation in an area is also a good way to minimise the impact of wind erosion.
