Tourism can both help and hurt the area of interest. The area of scenic attraction may bring in many tourists, but it is up to the country or local government to stand tough against bad tourism. Such bad tourism is things such as leaving traces of you or fellow travelers behind. I have been to Belize, Dominican Republic, and have friends that spent two weeks in Costa Rica. These areas have instituted what is known as ecotourism and stick to that with passion. These countries and places understand that tourism is what is going to bring in the capital to make the country strive yet they want it to be around for the future generations to see and discover. In Belize they did a great job of reminding us that doing things like staying at ecolodges and for example cave exploration, to wear socks in order for our natural skin oils to not erode the cave for future explorers.
