How can technology effect collaboration in groups?
The progress of the internet in the last ten years has opened many doors in the uses of technology in small group communication. More specifically: the use of instant messaging programs and other online communication platforms such as Blackboard, Microsoft Live Meeting, and MSN Messenger. Small groups are no longer limited to telephones, fax machines, and other archaic forms of communication. Virtual meetings can now be held online, regardless of where the group members are located in the country, even at opposite ends of the Earth. The development of wireless internet (When a computers modem does not need to be plugged into the wall), is making these virtual meetings even more accessible. Practically all somebody needs is a laptop and any one of hundreds of instant messaging programs to keep in touch with their fellow group members.
