How can swaddling benefit drug babies?
Parents on drugs have a higher rate of premature births; and premature and low-birth-weight infants are at an increased risk for SIDS. Swaddling reinforces the importance of placing infants on their backs to sleep, which reduces the risk of SIDS. Increased movement and sleeping difficulties are associated with babies who are born addicted to drugs. Swaddling can be especially beneficial for these babies because it controls movement, promotes better quality of sleep and helps soothe the agitation associated with drug withdrawal.
