Constant data monitoring of loading, stresses etc. This would only detect a situation where a structure exceeded its design parameters and wouldn’t necessarily mean that the structure is about to fail. It also wouldn’t be able to predict an instant failure where defective materials or unforseen circumstances were the cause. As far as I can gather from the news reports (I may be totally wrong here) the structure is located in an industrial area and was not originally designed to hold civic functions. > I already have a fear of heights. > Watching the video has now made me > even more wary of going into tall buildings. It’s unlikely that you’ll be in a building when it collapses. Statistically, you’re more likely to have an accident in your own house or driving from/to home or spontaneously combusting… TTfn.
