State fish and wildlife agencies are responsible for the management and protection of all fish and wildlife species that inhabit their borders. Their efforts in the conservation of fish and wildlife species have yielded remarkable results, however, all too often, difficult programmatic decisions must be made based on limited budgets. CARA provides $350 million to state fish and wildlife agencies to support wildlife conservation, education, and recreation programs. This funding gives desperately needed assistance to state fish and wildlife agencies that are struggling to meet the needs of a diverse array of species. These funds will allow states to work proactively to prevent the decline of wildlife species before they reach a crisis point when recovery is often more costly.
