How can someone differentiate among blues-rock, electric blues and contemporary blues music styles?
Answer Hello, John, Those are somewhat esoteric designations. There are no definate rules. Basically, blues-rock is heavily influenced by rock rhythms and a strong beat, electric blues are usually played with electric instruments, (no sax, trumpet, or wind instruments) and tend to be smoother rhythmically and loud. Contemporary blues are often about modern problems, and are played in modern styles, as opposed to, say, dixieland or rag rhythms. They are very subtle distinctions and musicians often disagree about the style of a particular recording. I hope this helps. Write back if I can help you more. Jake.
