How can Sneads Ferry keep New River and other nearby waters safe for its citizens to enjoy?

A- The waters around Sneads Ferry should, except for extreme storm events, forever be a place for safe swimming, boating, and consumption of seafood. If incorporated, Sneads Ferry could divide the village into zones and regulate the land use within each zone, preventing building in inappropriate areas that could damage our natural resources and our water quality. Current county zoning does not adequately protect us. We currently have many area waters that are closed to shellfishing due to high levels of fecal coliform bacteria. Sneads Ferry could write its own regulations for waterfront development and storm water controls that are reasonable and effective. These rules, by law, would be recognized by any federal or state agency. We would also have a strong voice concerning what happens to and what is put into New River upstream of our municipal boundaries.
