But many nutritionists and doctors think internal fat around vital organs such as the heart, liver, or pancreas — which are not obvious to the eye — is more dangerous than the obvious fat under the skin. Researchers at Imperial College London say many skinny people with fat on the inside are on the verge of being obese. They consume too many fatty and sugary foods while exercising very little; yet they are not eating enough to be considered fat. Regardless of whether it can be seen to the naked eye, the internal fat increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Experts say skinny obese people generally live sedentary lifestyles and have a much higher risk of death than people who are obese.
