How can Senator Harkin help veterans or their families obtain military medals?
As a veteran myself, I know how significant medals are to veterans and their families. That is why I have worked to help hundreds of Iowa veterans receive the decorations they have earned. To obtain lost, stolen or never received medals, send a letter to one of my state offices requesting that you be issued all your decorations. Your letter must include your full name, address, phone number, Social Security number, former service number (if you had one), VA claim number (if you have a VA claim), date and place of birth, and signature. A copy of your discharge papers (DD 214), which lists your awards, must be attached. When I receive this information, I will forward it to the appropriate agency along with a letter from myself requesting that you receive your medals. Deceased veterans’ family members can also request medals if they identify themselves as next-of-kin and include the information listed above. Family members should remember to include their own signature and address. Q. Wha
