How can people who don live in the Ward run here?

It is perfectly legal for people who live outside the ward to run here, but I’m not sure it’s ethical. I strongly believe that candidates who apply to represent a ward should be residents of the ward they’d like to represent. There are three candidates running for alderman in Ward 6 who currently reside in other parts of the city. They are running here because there is no incumbent. I find it disingenuous that their literature refers to “our” ward when they are already sitting at their desks downtown while we haven’t made it out of our driveways on a snow day. I’m also a proponent of two-term limits on city council positions to ensure that no one is pursuing political positions for a career, but rather because they genuinely want to serve the public instead.
