How can people connect or find their lost loved ones?
A Evacuees wishing to inform their loved ones as to their whereabouts can register their name by clicking on Family Links Registry on www.redcross.org. Concerned friends and family can register the names of their loved ones and view the list of those already posted. We have also established a toll free number (1-877-LOVED1S) to enable people post their location by phone. As of September 6, a total of 105,000 people have registered on the Family Links Registry or 1-877-LOVED1S; we have recoded 6 million hits on this Web site. Red Cross units should refer people looking for loved ones or evacuees wishing to let others know they are safe to www.redcross.org and instruct them to click on the Family Links Registry. While there may be some people who still cannot access either the internet or toll free phone number, it is important that the Red Cross do as much as possible, as quickly as possible, to re-united loved ones.
