How can parents foster the possible seed of a priestly or consecrated vocation in their children?
The vocation is God’s call. It does not come from home, nor can it be imposed by the parents. God’s call to a soul is eternal; it is a seed sown by him and hidden in the child’s heart, until the day they discover it. What must Christian parents do to help the seed of a possible vocation grow? Simply live an authentically Christian life at home. Parents should teach their children to pray, educating them in faith and in love for God. They should practice the sacraments as a family, especially Sunday Mass and frequent confession, and give witness of their mutual love as spouses and as a family. It is important to form the children in the virtues of charity and generosity toward their neighbor, both by the word and example, teaching them to care for others. The children must also learn to live out their Christian morals with conviction so that they keep their conscience open to God’s voice and base their happiness on following God’s will.
