How can one person have two social security numbers?
Having more than one social security number is illegal. You are given your number either at birth or when you come legally to this country and that is the number you have your entire life. One is probably the original and the other is a fake. There was a huge rumor going around when I was in college, it sounded really good but I knew it was a fake and so did several others, but yet there were still a few that believed it. The rumor was that everyone is given two social security numbers and you could get your second one by mailing the government, filling out papers and sending them back in with the proper fees in money order form, thus getting the new number and having your “slate” wiped clean. This was a scam that was later busted, but several of the people I went to college with fell for it and a couple of them almost got arrested because of using the “new” social security number.
