How can one find a qualified acupuncturist?
There are two types of qualified acupuncturists: licensed acupuncturists and certified acupuncturists. To become a licensed acupuncturist, a person needs: 1. to have three to five years of training to receive either “Diplomate in Acupuncture” (Dipl. Ac.) or “Diplomate in Oriental Medicine” (Dipl. O.M.), which includes both “Diplomate in Acupuncture” (Dipl. Ac.) and “Diplomate in Chinese Herbology” from a professional Oriental Medicine School recognized by the state educational department 2. to obtain The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) certification, which most states rely on; and 3. to pass the state license exam to meet each state’s different requirements.
