This theory was developed by Howard Gardner in the 1980s. It is based on the idea that there are different kinds of intelligence – seven in all- of which we usually have one in greater abundance than others. By finding out our particular Intelligence, the theory goes, we can understand our learning and work styles better, and thus find a type of study or work that suits us. The types are: Verbal/ Linguistic – likes words and stories Logical/ Mathematical – problem- and puzzle- solver who likes working with numbers and patterns Spatial/ Visual – likes to design and create; imaginative Musical/ Rhythmic – works with sound, rhythm and melody Bodily/ Kinaesthetic – learns by doing, likes to touch and interact with things Interpersonal – woks best in groups, good communicator Intrapersonal –likes to work alone, pursue private goals While we all have all or most of these abilities to some extent, most people feel more comfortable with a particular way of working, based on one of these styles
