How can India self sufficient in food production?

0

In my view, the main problem India is facing is an ideological fault. We view agriculture as “the largest employer in the economy”. Agriculture is only viable if there is scale to it along with advanced technology. Now, most of the indian farmers can neither afford the technology nor do they have the scale. Hence, the yields are pretty low in india. I think, India can use this declining interest to its advantage. We can think of growing food in thousands of hectares of “leased” or “owned” land in backward countries in Africa or South America. This operation can be done by Government in partnership with private sector. As a result of this, we can bolster our international relations, secure natural resources and at the same time experiment with scale and technology. This kind of experimentation can’t be done in our country because, acquiring land in such huge quantities is in itself a big political headache and forget about technology interference. I think this is the only way to develop
