How can images be brought into Microstation?
There are four ways to display and register images in MicroStation: Using standard MicroStation functionality: 1. Import the image into the design file. This possibility has existed for quite some time, but is not generally recommended since it is slow and the image data can occupy large amounts of space in the DGN file. There is an absolute limit on the size of image that can be stored in this way, due to the maximum size of the DGN file. The size limits are approximately 10 Mb for 8-bit imagery and 32Mb for 24-bit imagery. 2. Attach the image as a “raster reference” file. This capability is a standard feature in both MicroStation 95/SE and MicroStation/J. The image file is read and displayed as-needed by MicroStation, thus no space is wasted in the design file. Many image formats are supported, including GeoTIFF with MicroStation SE and J. This “raster reference” capability is fine for small images, but not well suited to handling larger imagery. The definition of a “large image” is
