How can ICT help promote key stage 3 childrens understanding about plants?
(For an essay.) We would suggest that you:- First identify the areas of the Science National Curriculum that are to do with plants. Then consider how the various forms of ICT could enhance the teaching and learning of each topic. For instance if we consider photosynthesis: • word processing could be used to write up an experiment/idea/story; • data logging using sensors for oxygen, light, temp and ph could measure the changes in a beaker of Elodea over 24 hours; • an internet search for diagrams and explanations; • spreadsheet to analyse results and make graphical representations; literacy and numeracy can be addressed in a similar manner. There are myriads of examples in every Institute of Biology Journal of Education and, of course, the School Science Review. Try also to find the books written by Roger Frost, Use of ICT in Science (not sure that is correct title but most Institutes of Education will have a copy).
