How can I write a good short horror story?
Scary stories can be hard to write. I know, because my favorite thing to write about is gore. Lots and lots of GORE. I write about gore because I love to express detail, and the more detailed the gore, the creepier a story can get. But there is a fine line between wonderfully detailed and annoying that is difficult to find. If you’re a good writer, it’s fairly easy. I’d say, watch some horror movies or read more scary stories. The more you read, the more ideas you’ll get, and better your concept will become. You have the basics of something you’d want to write… so expand on it. Make connections and ties to characters for suspense. With any concept you use, please refrain from monologue for as long as possible. That will keep the reader scared and on the edge of their seat thinking “I must read on to find out what happens!” Remember, try NOT to separate scariness from logic. Do research. Give each character a background story, and then free write a bit. List all of your ideas down and
