demat account is not a money account. shares which is “a stock” is held in the demat account. it can be either permanently converted into cash by selling or temporarily cash can be raised against it by pledging it with finance company and raising a loan. if converted into cash by selling through the trading account; after the lock in period; i.e. after the exchange pay out day, which is normally trading plus 2 days, the broker can be instructed to make the pay out the investor, either through a cheque or by transferring into the investor’s bank account. if loan is raised, the withdrawal should be made from the financing company.
