How can I walk my new puppy when shes still getting barely used to our home?
Congratulations! Welcome to the world of people who have to go outside every day in all kinds of weather. If you adopted your pup from a pet store that offers shelter dogs for adoption, the pooch might not be from a puppy mill, but four months really is old enough to take to an obedience class, and old enough to walk on the street. My own pup is only 13 weeks (he’s a mixed breed, and larger), but we walk around the neighborhood every day and we’ve done that from the minute he came home. He was a little uncertain, too–he was a rescue who was taken from his mom at only 4 weeks–but he gets more confident and outgoing every day. It’s hard not to be overprotective of tiny breeds like Chihuahuas, but she really IS old enough to get out and walk. When you take your pup out in the backyard, put her down and walk back and forth in a businesslike way… see if you can get her to follow you. Get a harness and let her get used to it, then put a leash on and let her drag that around. My grandma h
