How can i view marriage records online for free?
It depends on the locale and the year. If you’re in the US, most recent marriages aren’t online, but some are. To find those for free you need to go to the library and access either Ancestry.com or Heritage Quest from one of the library’s computers. If the marriage is older, check the USGenWeb board for the locale. In Michigan, for example, Jack and Marianne Dibean painstakingly indexed all known marriages from the 1800s for every county in the state. Some places have privacy laws forbidding publication of vital statistic information for anywhere between 72 and 105 years. Others don’t care and let it all be published if someone has the time and energy to do all the typing to make it happen. I’ve found some older marriage records on the LDS’s FamilySearch.org website. But beyond the GenWeb project, newspaper announcements and the occasional hit in Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.org, there aren’t a lot of places that you’ll find them for free and online.
