How can I understand the tab for bass guitar?
The top line of the tab is always the thinnest string, the letters up the left hand side are how you tune them. Standard tuning would be; G D A E So on this song your thickest string [E] should be tuned down to D. You need to listen to the song as well as reading the tab, to find what the timing should sound like, but as an example, this —-5~—– Means that you hit the string on the fifth fret, and the squiggle means ‘ring out’ or just hit the string and hold the note.This –555555555— means you should hit the string continuously, in time with what’s happening on the song as you listen to it.
