How can i train my 1 year old bichon frise?
Your dog’s behaviour can be fixed, so don’t stress too much. You have to remember your younger Bichon is still a puppy; I have an 11 month old puppy. She is hyper, as soon as we let her inside she goes nuts. However, through extensive positive reinforcement training she has improved immensely. Positive reinforcement training is when you reward your dog (eg: with a treat or favourite toy) when they carry out the behaviour or action that you want. Praise her when she is sitting down calmly. Never, ever hit or yell at your dog as this can cause trauma and add to behavioural problems. A lot of people have trouble potty training their dogs because they basically just scold their dogs when they go in the wrong place. This method is ineffective. If your puppy goes inside the house put her outside straight away. When you’re outside with her and she goes where she is meant to, praise and reward her with a treat; You can also use a positive cue such as “Good girl!”.. This may take a while, but d
At a year old, she shouldn’t really be weeing through excitement so I would suggest you take her to the vets to rule out an infection. If she continues to do this after you have ruled out/treated infection, are you the pack leader in your house? If not, you need to establish this as soon as possible. You can do this by: Eating before your dogs Never feeding table scraps Making them walk next to or behind you on walks Always positioning yourself higher than them (e.g. not letting them on sofa) Controlling their resources, e.g. food, toys, etc Ask visitors to greet you before your dogs Is she crate trained? If not, I would suggest you do this with her to help her to learn to control her bladder and also stop the accidents at night as she won’t be free to roam. When she has an accident, if you catch her doing it, tell her ‘no’ firmly and lead her outside. If you don’t catch her doing it, say nothing, divert her attention and clean it up with an odour removing spray. Take her to the same s
