How can i trace my family roots through my own DNA?
You can use DN A as an aid or tool in researching your family, but just having a DNA test done in itself will not show you your ancestry. Y & Mitochondrial are used in most cases as they both go back in a straight line unchanged. You get your Y from your father, his father, his father and so on. You should have the same Y not only as your father and your paternal grandfather etc but also your paternal uncles and the male cousins from your paternal uncles. Both males and females get their Mitochondrial from their mother, her mother, her mother etc. Only the female passes it on to the next generation.You would have the same Mitochondrial not only as your mother and your grandmother but your maternal aunts and uncles who are siblings of your mother and grandmother etc, but only the cousins you have from your maternal aunts.
