How can I trace my ancestors back further than 1841?
if you are in the UK, you need to work out which record offices, hold the parish records for your ancestors, so for example, london parishes are held at the national archives (as are all parish records, well most) and also at the family records centre in London. another example is that parishes in Sussex, are held at the Sussex record office in Lewes, and Kent are held at the Maidstone Record Office. They all have their own visiting hours and methods, they are very friendly, phone up and ask if they can help. im stuck on some of mine now, even having visited maidstone to look for a particular birth, what i do is then work on another branch for a while, then my boyfriends, then people on here who ask questions, it satisifies a need in me to dig around!!!! scotlands people often have very helpful people, i think i emailed someone somewhere once for some advice and he looked something up for me, i cant remember if it was scotlandspeople but it something like that, or was it the scottish v
