How can I tell if a glass company uses unsafe glass?
• You can not tell. You would have to inspect the glass BEFORE it was installed. Windshield glass is composed of TWO layers of glass bonded together by a very strong plastic laminate. It is sometimes called “safety glass” because an object would have to go through two layers of glass AND a strong plastic laminate to hurt you. Glass companies embed their logos, their safety approval certificate, and technical information between the layers so that they can not be rubbed off or changed. After the glass has been molded and cooled it is tested for safety and checked for flaws. Good glass companies discard any glass that is flawed or unsafe at this point. They will not allow their name to be on any bad product and land them in jail! Unscrupulous glass companies pass it off as “seconds” and lower the price to get rid of it.
