How can i stop my snare drum from having the horrible ringing sound?

First of all, ringing isn’t always bad. What you hear behind the kit is alot different than what the audience hears. They are further away from the kit, and much of the ringing is drowned out by the other instruments. The ringing can help the drums to stand out from the sound of the other instruments and can add to the overall tonal quality of your drum set. If you want to get rid of the high pitched ringing that the heads make, you can buy tone control rings or dampening gels (moongels). You could also take 4 inch pieces of duct tape and fold the center of the tape together. Then, take the unstuck ends of the tape and stick them to the drum head somewhere near the edge. You should have about a 1 inch flap sticking up and two 1 inch pieces stuck to the head. You can even put a few pieces on each head if you want to, just put them in a spot that won’t get in the way of your sticks.

try loosening the snare drum, there should be a little lever on the side of your drum, use that to alter the position of the snare so you can have it at a different level of sound.Basically experiment until you get the sound that you are happy with.
