How can I stop my chinchilla fur chewing?
Unfortunately, fur chewing is largely genetic. It may not manifest for a while, until something triggers it, but once it starts it’s 99% impossible to stop. Fur chewing is rarely, if ever, fungus, malocclusion, or any other disease. It is just fur chewing. First, I’m not sure that Bitter Apple should be used directly on his skin. I know that it can be sprayed on objects as a deterrent, but directly on the skin is probably not the best idea. It’s not going to stop him from chewing anyway, and it may make him sick. Second, fur chewing doesn’t generally go straight down to the skin unless it’s an extremely bad case of chewing. Generally their fur looks really barbered, like a bad hair cut. It can go really deep, but generally they leave a bit of fuzz all over the skin. In this case, I would be concerned that there is something else going on. Is the skin healthy and pink where it is exposed? Usually when I see bare skin, I think fungus (ringworm) or some other skin ailment. I don’t general
