How can I stop multiple dogs from barking and howling in their crates during the night?
A quick fix is to go to PetsMart/PetCo, etc. and get either some Kongs or sterlized bones that have a big hole through them. Put peanut butter in either of these and give it to them in their crate. Licking all the peanut butter takes a long time so it usually keeps them busy for quite some time. There are also other styles of “interactive” dog treats you can use to keep your dogs busy. It might be good, too, to look at how much they are being exercised. If you can give them a good workout, they should be ready to sleep. As they say, a tired dog is a happy owner. Dachshunds are part of the hound group and most hounds alert their owners by barking. My reference book says that Dachshunds do have a high “watch dog” factor and will bark – alot, if allowed, the book says. Also, if they are altogether, they probably feel like they are a pack and what one does, all do. I’m also sending you a link below to a great resource that may give you some additional ideas.
