How can i stop blow back of smoke from wood burner?
You have to get the air flowing in the right direction, it can be complicated sometimes if you have a long chimney. I have this problem at home myself. Once the smoke is going the right place, it should keep going until the fire dies out and the chimney cools. Start with simply opening a door or a window before you start your fire and not closing it until your fire is going well and the smoke is heading in the right direction. Also, to heat your chimney you should always start your fires by rolling up newspaper and burning it right into your chimney.
Sounds like a draft problem for sure. There could be many reasons for back draft and no draft. Check for nests on top of chimney or linkage on draft damper. It may take a small fire to establish draft up a tall chimney and it depends on pressures outside and inside at the burner. you could try a fan to push the smoke up the chimney and force draft until the draft is established. Use a mirror to look up the chimney and see daylight. It is not unusual for lined chimneys to collapse inside depending on the type used.
A couple things can cause this. When you start the fire, hold a piece of burning paper inside to start a proper draft up the chimney. If you have ceiling fans, this can also pull the smoke from the stove. You may have a “tight” house and need to crack a window near the unit to give the fire more air flow.
