IndiX system comes with a terminal-emulator program called ncst-term. This ncst-term has capability to automatically switch between English/Indic font. You can also specify Indic font to be used while displaying Indic characters. This ncst-term has built-in UTF-8 support. All text mode applications must be run under this ncst-term. You may have to configure your text-mode application so that it uses UTF-8 encoding as default encoding. To learn how to configure various applications, see the section Applications with Devanagari.
