The Dell computer BIOS (Basic Input Output System) password prevents the computer from being initialized prior to booting. This password allows for hardware-based security on a computer. In certain circumstances, such as BIOS corruption or accident, the BIOS password may become set and unrecoverable. This situation requires a BIOS reset that will restore the BIOS to a default setting without a password. Disconnect the computer from any electrical connections and remove the side access panel from the case. This may require the removal of thumbscrews from the rear of the computer’s case. Locate the round button BIOS battery on the motherboard. This battery may be in a number of places on the front face of the motherboard. This battery is the only round button battery on the motherboard and is clearly marked as a BIOS battery for easy recognition. Remove the BIOS battery by gripping its sides and pulling it straight away from the motherboard. This may require some force if the battery has
