How Can I Repair the Backing on Insulated Curtains?
Insulated curtains are a great way to make your home more energy efficient. Insulated curtains block out the cold and the heat, protect a room against drafty windows and block out direct sunlight. However, this constant exposure to the elements can cause the insulated backing to wear out, fade or even tear. You do not have to replace your insulated curtains if this happens. It is relatively easy and inexpensive to repair the backing yourself. Apply a patch to curtains where the insulation has a hole or is torn. This is the best way to repair the backing. Measure the damaged area and cut out a piece of insulation large enough to cover the hole. Attach the patch to the insulation with straight pins. Hand sew the patch onto the damaged insulation using a back stitch or whip stitch. Remove all of the insulation backing from the curtain, if the damage cannot be patched.
