However, this constant exposure to the elements can cause the insulated backing to wear out, fade or even tear. You do not have to replace your insulated curtains if this happens. It is relatively easy and inexpensive to repair the backing yourself. Apply a patch to curtains where the insulation has a hole or is torn. This is the best way to repair the backing. Measure the damaged area and cut out a piece of insulation large enough to cover the hole. Attach the patch to the insulation with straight pins. Hand sew the patch onto the damaged insulation using a back stitch or whip stitch. Remove all of the insulation backing from the curtain, if the damage cannot be patched.
