How can I repair a hole in a gyprock wall??
• 1. First measure the size of the hole, and cut a square piece of new gyprock to cover the hole. Place the new cut piece over the hole and trace around it with a pencil. • 2. Using a coping saw or gyprock saw, cut out the square around the hole. • 3. Insert 2 or 3 lengths of batten (20 mm x 10 mm pine) vertically into the hole, and spaced evenly apart. Secure the battens by screwing through the edge of the gyprock wall into the battens on the top and bottom, with 50 mm screws, being careful not to split the battens. • 4. Place your cut piece of gyprock into the square hole, and screw it to the battens using the 50 mm screws. • 5. Trowel your plaster compound over the patched hole, and smooth over with your metal float. Leave at least 24 hours to dry. (Remember, the more plaster you apply, the more you’ll have to sand off later!) • 6. Sand back the area until you achieve a smooth finish. If required, apply more plaster and follow Steps 5 & 6. • 7.
