The best thing to use is some kind of organic acid, as this will dissolve the calcium carbonate and other deposits which constitute the stains. Kettle descaler made up in a jug is very good for getting rid of these sorts of deposits. Try adding some citric acid powder (available from Home Brewing stockists) to give it a bit more power. You can also try concentrated lemon juice (the sort you buy in those green glass bottles), but that mightn’t be strong enough. Whatever you use, apply it liberally, reapplying once it’s run off and dried, and leave it for 20 minutes or so: you should then be able to wash it off and job done.
