How can I remove tree sap from my car window and paint finish?
Ahh the infamous SAP problem- As for the respondant who told you to use dish soap, yeah uhh, and you are paying for her paint right? I have always used a little rubbing alcohol on a wash cloth to remove the sap. After you remove the sap though you are going to need to wash the car and have it waxed. If you want to do this by yourself you can, but what I would do is locate your local Automotive Detail Shop and let them get the sap off your car. I am from Northern California, though I now live in the Bay Area, my relatives still live up north in the pines! I have suffered the “Pine Pitch Blues” before. I just roll my car into my local detail shop here and let them take care of it. Just be sure to point it out to them, and they will safely remove the sap without damaging the paint. The detail job I normally get is about $75.00 to $110.00 depending on what I hae done including touching up rock chips in the paint. The key to removing tree sap is washing your car with hot water. McGuire’s makes a great car wash, though dish soap will also work in a pinch. Put some in a bucket, add hot water, apply with a wash mitt and watch your tree sap problem wash away! Depending on how hard the sap is, you may need to wash twice to get it all. Also, wax your car often to increase the ease of dirt / tar / sap removal. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
