While some people may choose to watch more violent things because they are somehow more innately violent, others do not choose to watch it. When they go to movies of their choosing, they see ten previews for movies they are uninterested in. When we watch TV, we see so many commercials that we do not ask for. When we listen to the radio, we do not choose what lyrics the artists put in their songs. Someone might be in control of the remote. Adolescents are often pressured to watch or listen to whatever they think their peers watch or listen to, even if they don’t like or agree with it. My arguments are that the mass media is SO big and encompassing, that it’s not as simple as turning on the TV and that’s it. We hear people talk about it, we are forced to see other shows or songs or commercials even for the programs that we do choose to see, and we are pressured by our peers to stay contemporary to keep up at the water cooler or in 8th grade.
