It is possible to turn off the automatic validation for a file type that is validated against a DTD or Schema. This option is set in the Tools/Options/File types tab. Highlight the appropriate extension and then check the “Disable automatic validation” checkbox. However, this option will not disable a check for well formedness. XMLSpy® 2010 will always check if a file is well formed and also prompt you twice as to whether you are sure that you want to save it.
