to prevent their entry seal all gaps, even very very small ones, youd ne amazed at the small size some mice can get through if they are in then consider buying a so called humane trap (non leathal) and bait with somehting like peanut butter or even chocolate. when youy trap any mice you can then take them outside (reasonably far from the house and release them). Although why its called humane to take a mouse from a wrm centrally heated house outside and sling ’em into a hedge or grass (where they are unfamiliar and prone to predation from things like cats) is called humane beats me….

You go to your local hardware store, and you find something called the “tomcat” live catch mouse trap. It’s not a snap trap that kills them. It’s a little box they get caught in. There are two doors that the mouse curiously crawls into, and they get caught when they walk into the doors. They just get caught into a box, and are bewildered, but alive. You simply take the box with the mouse (or mice) outside, or maybe 5 miles away, and open the box. The mouse will jump out, and run. Hopefully you’ll never see the mouse again, but anything’s possible. They have great senses, and know where to go to get back where they once were. Make sure you monitor your catches every day. If you forget, you’ll end up with some dead mice in the trap, from dehydration or starvation. If you live in the U.S., go to Lowe’s home improvement center, if you have one in your area. They carry the Tomcat’s there.
