How Can I Plant a Dwarf Holly Tree in a Planter?
Nothing says Christmas like a holly tree, but these evergreen plants make a beautiful statement year-round. There are over 200 varieties of English holly alone, most boasting dark glossy leaves and red berries in the winter. Most holly cultivars require full sun but will tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates. Dwarf holly trees thrive as container plants and are hardy from zone 7 to 10. Holly trees should be planted in the spring before new growth begins. Select a container that is big enough to allow your holly plant’s roots to grow. Generally a 15- to 20-gallon container is sufficient for dwarf holly varieties. Make sure your container is sturdy and provides proper drainage.
