How can I physically and mentally prepare for basic training?
Running is the critical one – pick a stretch of road or a park, do a fair jog for half an hour, go home. Three to five times a week. Do sets of pushups and situps every now and then. Play team sports if you can – soccer and basketball are good ones – in addition to being exercise, they’re good social activities that improve your ability to work in a team. Mentally, you’ll need life experience. Getting a job and joining the work force is a big one – something like McDonalds would be surprisingly good, as their employees are used to working quickly in a well regulated environment. Something with fair bit of stress. Learn to make your bed with hospital corners, iron your clothes, do the laundry, clean the windows – they’re all basic but critical skills that will make your training a lot easier.
